When exercise, health and fitness is your life or a massive part of it, more than likely it will have a big impact on the other parts of your life and If I’m guessing correctly again, your overall mood! (I know it did mine). So when I say this changed my life, I mean it! It may sound stupid but when you’re as competitive as I am, judging myself off a recent workout will affect my overall mood. Wrongly or rightly, this happened! If I really pushed myself and felt like I gave it everything I would be ecstatic, it was my drug, I was happy and nothing was a problem. However, if I felt like I slacked off and didn’t give it my all, I would be grumpy and a pain in the ass to be around. Now again, I’m not saying this is a good thing. I shouldn’t let something I have control over affect my mood and those around me but hey, I’m human and we all stuff up!

So you live and you learn….

I’ve made countless mistakes when it comes to training and eating. Yeah, I’ve had times when I (thought) looked good and felt good.

But in the long term, consistent period of time…. I failed. And I failed again over and over to look and feel how I wanted (I’m talking DAY IN DAY OUT)….. to be consistently happy with what I saw in the mirror.

And….

I’m guessing you’re the same, if not very similar. At least at some point in your life, if not now.

So, WHY?

I failed to have a plan.

I didn’t really have an understanding or set out structure of what I needed to do to achieve my desired body. No carbs, high fat, fasted cardio, eating every 3 hours, eating a ton of vegetables, supplements…you name it I tried it all. But it came down to not knowing and not having a PLAN.

There is an awesome quote by Alan Lakein – “Failing to plan is planning to fail” – that pretty much sums up how important it is to have a structure in place, not just in your fitness aspect, but life in general.

It all changed when I started to structure my training and fitness with care and attention towards my goals. Things changed! After countless years experimenting and learning, gaining knowledge of what works and what doesn’t, I could plan my training to achieve the body I always wanted… and it happened FAST.

Not “next week fast” but given I hadn’t achieved my goal body after 10 years in the weight room I would consider 6 months of body weight training to be FAST!! Every training session became fun again. The variety was like nothing I had ever experienced and the best part of all for me… FREEDOM. No longer was I tied to the gym with the same machines, half-assing my workouts and watching the clock. I literally had to be told to finish up my workout and I had done enough. That feeling of getting in an amazing workout and letting it affect my mood happened, but without the negative feelings. My mood changed for the better, my attitude towards life changed for the better and I was a happier person to be around. Even if exercise isn’t a huge part of your life, I think we can all agree that it’s an important aspect of health, so in some shape or form we should all be exercising. My mood not only changed because I was getting results and having good workouts, it changed because I got to explore more, I was constantly outdoors or in a different environment. My imagination improved as I begin to think of different locations to exercise and I did it when or where it suited me.

That is why I developed Bodyweight Built! If you have hit a plateau, not getting the results you want or just want to get outside of the gym more and give yourself more flexibility, then this is for you!
