Upper Body Workout

I often post about how I believe training multiple body parts in one session reaps better benefits. For years I spent my time in the gym on a bodybuilding split, isolating muscles, and, as a result- didn’t really progress too far. Firstly, I wasn’t a bodybuilder, I wasn’t training for a physique competition so why did I feel the need to waste my time isolating and try to sculpt every muscle individually? It’s drilled into us that it’s the way we should train, it comes from professional bodybuilder days and really the evolution of weightlifting. I just wanted a fit, strong, functionally fit body but I was training incorrectly for my goals- stuck in a routine, not progressing but worried to make the change.

I wanted to build muscle, I wanted to get a defined six pack and I wanted to be fast, agile and explosive. Weightlifting was cutting it. Quitting the gym and weighted I changed to calisthenics training. Workouts using my body weight only and incorporating functional movements that helped me in everyday life and made my body feel better!

As I progressed through my calisthenics journey, more and more exercises opened up to me. The muscle-up, a move I’ve always wanted to do is now a staple exercise in my workouts. I first started attempting these with a strong resistance band and was still struggling to get reps!

I wanted to share the top exercises I now do for the upper body that help me develop great strength and build the lean muscle I want! I recently filmed this workout, including a warm-up and a post workout meal and uploaded it all to my YouTube channel. As you will see I like to use supersets to maximize time but also keep pushing the cardio side of my training! You’ll see how I use muscle ups, dips, pull ups, push ups and Pike push-ups with a few different variations. If you want to build muscle in your chest, arms, back, and shoulders- You need to start adding these exercises to your routine. You’ll also see one of my favorite exercises to develop a strong core and help bring out the six-pack abs!

I really enjoyed this little video I put together and it shows you a little bit more about who I am and what a normal day looks like for me.
